As I write this review, it is essential to have realistic expectations about budget-priced safes. This safe is super-useful to keep important items out of the reach of little hands at home. If little kids are always curious and open every drawer, overturn every rock, and dig out every nook and cranny in your house to ‘explore,’ this is a great item that will work very well to keep them from gutting your very important stuff. You won’t have to worry about your passports being cut into a paper people chains, or your rare coins having been used to buy candy bars at the corner grocer, or any other things you do not want curious heads handling. With that said, if one is looking for something that is burglar-proof, this is not it. If the safe is not bolted down, at a lovely 20 lbs the weight of whatever is in there, kiss the safe goodbye. Out flies the masked bandit through your front door with your safe at their hip. Even if it is bolted down, though, this will not deter committed thieves from using tools to pop it off and pop it open quickly in situ. With this understanding, I not only have this safe in a relatively obscure area bolted down but also concealed it. This safe does not have a fire safety rating, so dont’ buy if for that.If you are looking for something that is burglar-resistant (because let’s face it: nothing is really burglar-proof to a thief with the right skill set, tools, and experience), plan on spending three figures. If you are looking for something that is also fire-resistant, it may cost upwards of four figures or more.With all this said, it would have been nice if instructions for the bolt hardware would have been included, as well as for an included plastic “battery box” with an attached cable adapter. It’s one of those things you have to figure out on your own it seems. The only instructions are on how to set the operations of the safe.Otherwise: Does this work for keeping out the excessively curious, though? Yes, it does. Every well, and that is what I base my rating on. It works great.
