Southern Italian Leaf Broccoli The leaves are picked for the table not the small flower heads which should be removed as they appear. To many people this has a better flavour than kale. Cook it as you would kale or spinach. It can be used as a baby leaf too. When to sow: Sow from January until early April for harvesting during autumn and winter. Where to sow: Direct into prepared bed Depth to sow: 1cm Aspect:  Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible. Soil:  Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add   lime if soil is too acid. Spacing:  Between plants  20cm, Between rows 40cm Directions: Seed is best planted straight into the garden 3 seeds per station, 1cm deep  and 20cm apart with 40cm between rows. Thin to one seedling.
