Year of the Horse Hanging Scroll 2026 Calendar

2026 is the Chinese year of the horse, but horses are also significant in Japan.  Hand-crafted wooden horse toys are known for being a symbol of good luck and fortune and are often given as gifts for weddings or new businesses. Is 2026 set to be a memorable year?  Perhaps there’s a milestone birthday on the horizon, a special anniversary or even a long-awaited trip to Japan.  Maybe it marks the start of a new chapter in a new home. According to the traditional cycle of animals in the Chinese zodiac, 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse - a rare and auspicious sign symbolising energy, confidence and bold optimism.  It’s a wonderful theme to welcome into your living space. This kakejiku or Japanese hanging scroll is crafted from 100% Enshu cotton, a hand-woven textile from the Shizuoka region of Japan, known for its soft feel and a weaving tradition that dates back to the Edo period. The main fabric is printed in black with a colourful, folk-art style design of flowers, foliage and a collection of traditional lucky motifs which include the migoma, a hand-carved wooden horse talisman believed to bring protection and good fortune.  Beneath the artwork is a useful 2026 calendar combining Arabic numerals with Japanese characters. Generously sized, it makes a striking piece for your home, perfect for an alcove, hallway or study, and a lovely way to celebrate a year full of possibility. What a wonderful keepsake if 2026 is going to be your year! The wall hanging is about 48cm (just under 19") wide and 89cm (about 35") long with a covered wooden baton at the top and dark blue ribbon (rayon) for hanging.  The bottom is weighted with a longer wooden baton with plastic caps at each end. The item comes boxed, making it ideal for gifting, and measures approximately 50cm (19¾") long by 4.7cm (just under 2") wide and 3cm (1¼") deep. Made in Japan.
